National Skating Month Celebration

FREE Skating Lessons and more!
Come celebrate National Skating Month at one (or both!) Montgomery Parks ice rinks.
- At Wheaton Ice Arena , the fun begins with FREE Skating Lessons from 1:45-2:45 p.m., followed by a "Cheapskate" Public Skating Session from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Admission and skate rentals are just $6.25 per person! There will be a great sale in the Pro Shop all day long, and a "Skate Swap," too--buy, sell or trade your used figure skating and hockey equipment and clothes.
- At Cabin John Ice Rink, the FREE Skating Lesson runs from 3:15-3:45 p.m. (ages 3 and up), and the "Cheapskate" Public Skating Session runs from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Admission and skate rentals are just $6.25 per person.

No school? No problem! Bring your 6-13 year-olds for a Park Play Day! On many of the days Montgomery County Public Schools are off, Park Play Days are on! Your kids will enjoy a day full of fun, including a tennis lesson, ice skating lesson, arts & crafts, and fun team games and sports. Tennis and ice skating lessons are given by professional instructors; activities may vary depending on the group's size and interests. Extended care is available before and after on most days for an additional fee. Register online at www.ParkPass.org or in person at the Wheaton Ice Arena. Some Park Play Days are also available at Cabin John Ice Rink.

Drop off the kids at the Wheaton Outdoor Rink for skating, games, arts & crafts, and dinner, while the two of you enjoy an evening together, alone! If you'd like to skate too, come to the Adult Skate (7-9pm) up at the Indoor Rink (7-9 p.m., $6.25 each...and your skate rentals are free!), then pick up your kids afterwards.It's fun for you, and fun for the kids. General Information
Wheaton Ice Arena is one of the two ice skating facilities owned and managed by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and is located in Wheaton Regional Park in Wheaton, Maryland. This year 'round NHL size rink offers sessions for all skating abilities and interests. Programs are offered for recreational, freestyle, hockey, and speed skaters. Also offered are a warming room, party rooms, a pro shop, and a snack bar. The Wheaton Outdoor Rink is available for leased ice time and parties from late October through mid-February.
Pro Shop
The Wheaton Pro Shop offers an extensive line of skating equipment and accessories for the hockey player, figure skater, or recreational skater (skating boots, blades, figure sets and apparel, blade mounting, custom fitting, skate sharpening). Call for information 301-649-3640.

Snack Bar
The Snack Bar is open year 'round during most public sessions. Snacks and beverages are offered. Vending machines are available also. Now offering refillable souvenir cup, buy the cup for $5.00, includes the first fill up, after that refills are only $1.00!
Party Rooms
Planning a Birthday Party? Party rooms are available for birthday, office, and holiday parties at $50 per hour. Full service birthday parties start at $150.

Skating Tips & Rules
- To protect skaters from cold temperatures and injury from skate blades and rough ice in the event of falling, hats and gloves or mittens should be worn.
- Skates should be 1/2 to 1 size smaller than the skater's street-shoe size. Skaters should wear one pair of thin socks or tights for maximum support. A skate should be unlaced before being put on, and then tightly replaced. If a skater's heel lifts up and down or there is inadequate ankle support, a smaller ice skate should be worn. If toes feel cramped in the skate boot, a larger size should be worn.
- Admission and skate rental tickets may be purchased 30 minutes before sessions begin.
- Schedules may be subject to changes without notice.
- Rinks reach capacity on weekends and holidays. Please plan to arrive early.
- Children 8 and under must be accompanied by someone 16 or older.
- People with disabilities who need assistance, please call the facility.
Leased Ice
Prices begin at $285 per hour for indoor ice time and $265 for outdoor ice time. Call the rink for leasing procedures and prices.
Renting the Outdoor Skating Rink
Winter rental fee (ice surface) - $265 per hour
Summer rental fee (in-line surface) - $
75 per hour or $500 per day
Lesson Information
Group Lessons
- Group Lesson Fee - $96 per series (six 30-minute lessons)
- Hockey Instruction Programs - $144 per series (six 45-minute lessons)
- Fee includes skate rental for the lesson, practice time and a pass good for 6 free admissions and skate rentals for our public sessions.
Group Lesson Guidelines:
- $5 fee for switching classes or late registration
- $35 fee for all returned checks
- Refunds offered on a case-by-case basis
- No makeup classes

You may register for classes by mail, in-person or online at www.ParkPASS.org. during our open registration period. Fee must be paid at time of registration. Make checks payable to M-NCPPC. Master Card and Visa welcome.

Private Lessons
Private Lesson Fee - $28 and up per half hour plus applicable admission fee and, if needed, $3.25 skate rental. Arrangements for private lessons must be made with the individual instructor and are subject to ice time and instructor availability.
Session Descriptions
Freestyle - During freestyle, skaters work on jumps, spins, footwork, and a combination of the three set to a program of music.
Dance - Ice dancing consists of set dance patterns in a program set to music. Skaters should have a grasp of edges, three turns, and mohawks to begin ice dancing. Dance sessions are offered at both rinks. See the rink schedules for dance sessions.
